Description
Bike Man was designed, written and printed in May of 2012. The poster was part of the Myth/Mystery series, funded by the Tacoma Arts Commission. The image on the poster was printed with a magnesium plate, created from a photograph of Jack Falk, Tacoma’s legendary Bike Man and longtime volunteer at the Washington State History Museum. We were so pleased to hear how much Jack liked this poster. Jack died in 2014 and had this poster hanging in his room at Tacoma General Hospital.
The words on the poster read:
Wheel in the middle of a wheel
As I was among the captives
by the waters of Thea Foss,
it came to pass that I saw visions—
the appearance of a wheel
in the middle of a wheel.
And great sparks shot from the wheels,
and wheresoever they went,
the spirit could be found
and wheresoever the wheels did not go
the spirit did not go.
And the wheels went not to Fife,
and only occasionally to Lakewood,
and never to Gig Harbor.
