The first sanctuary was a tent made with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim of cunning work woven into each curtain twenty-eight cubits long and four cubits wide. God camped inside the tabernacle tent as it was hauled from place to desert place for forty years. In our holy city are more tents. We drive by them, imagining what goes on under blue tarps and behind Coleman logos. I’ll tell you. These nylon sanctuaries do the same job they have always done. They provide refuge for those in trouble. They create holy places. They house the holy-of-holies. In the darkness, you can see the glory glowing from inside those holy tents.
